THE Pretoria Handicap Cup semi final matches in the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League have now been played.
Moretonhampstead conceded their quarter final match against Tavistock A setting up a Tavistock A versus Oke Young Ones B semi final. The experience of Tavistock A players Fred Phillips, Roger Bowkett and Peter Hicks proved too much for the young Okehampton players Harry Bryant, Kieran Coyle and Ebby Vallance as Tavistock ran out 6-1 winners.
Harry won the only game for Oke Young Ones beating Peter Hicks 17-21, 18-21. Roger Bowkett had to fight hard to beat both Kieran Coyle in three sets and Harry Bryant, also in three. Peter Hicks just shaded his game with Kieran while Ebby Vallance put up a good fight against Fred Phillips before going down in two.
The second semi final saw Anchorage A take on Anchorage B. Anchorage B's Dave Wilson just lost the opening game with Martin Fowler winning in three sets. This set the tone for the next three matches as Anchorage A went into a match winning 4-0 lead with Bob Vella beating both John Watson and Dave Wilson, and Martin Fowler and Dave Edwards taking the doubles against John Watson and Roger Gilbert. Roger did well to beat Anchorage A player Dave Edwards in two and Dave Wilson and Roger Gilbert took a close final doubles for Anchorage B in three against Bob Vella and Dave Edwards to give Anchorage A a 5-2 win on the night. Tavistock A will now play Anchorage A in the final.
