THE letters in your paper last week regarding speeding in Grenofen and elsewhere on the A386 were very interesting. My colleagues and I have, for many years, been members of a community speedwatch scheme, which gives us the satisfaction of knowing that the speeders are admonished by the police and the next time they come through our area they keep a wary eye out, but, the success of this scheme depends upon the volunteers to run it. If all the people who have complained, in writing and verbally, volunteered their services for whatever time they an afford, we would have a chain of Community Speedwatchers on the A386 which would reduce the speeding dramatically. It's an opportunity for the ordinary residents on this road not to rely upon the police but to do something for themselves.

A J Wroath Lydford THE lead article about speed in the Times, May 8, mentions the particularly dangerous junction to lower Grenofen; jump to page three and we see that this is the route to the recently approved wedding venue. Visitors to the venue are very likely to include complete strangers to the locality which will heighten the risk of incident. Barrie Brierley Horrabridge.
