BERE Alston Theatre Group?s production of The Old Woman Who Lived In a Shoe went down a treat in the parish hall before an appreciative audience recently.

The ambitious production was written and produced by Helena Rogers and had an all-star cast from right across the age range.

Tom Chapple was perfect as the Squire who, along with his scheming girlfriend Gloria (Jane Jones) evicted poor Dame Never-Say-No and her ten children.

The dame was played by veteran actress Jan Sly who proved herself to be a master of mirth and would have stolen the show had it not been for the squire?s hapless henchmen, Sid and Charlie.

Played by Richard Brindley and Benjamin Alcock, these two had the audience doubled up with laughter at their foolish antics.

Steve Jackson was terrifying as the thundering giant until onlookers realised the big guy was just lonely and wanted to make friends of the Dame?s children ? not food!

Eventually there was a happy ending: lots of new friendships, two marriages and a whole family re-housed in a shoe.
