OKEHAMPTON Golf Club ladies' section President's Trophy team had its turn to play really well in an away fixture — in their away match at Churston they had a well earned draw.
It was a close match, with two wins, two draws and three halved games.
Wednesday July 5 was the ladies' open meeting, with 62 competitors from 13 different clubs taking part.
With an 18-hole stableford followed by a 13-hole foursomes competition it was a busy day.
The scratch winner with 26 points was Marcia Jones, also winning the Peacock Salver with a net 41 points.
First in silver division Penny Deakin with 36 points; second Amanda Clifford 34 points; third Marcia Holwill losing on countback of last 9.
First in bronze division Shirley Reddaway, also winning Peacock Salver for bronze players with 39 points; second Eileen Piper 37 points; third Pam Jarman with 36 points.
Overall prizes, fourth, fifth and sixth places scored 36 points so were decided on countback. Fourth Maureen Willcocks, captain; fifth Chris Stevens; sixth Doris Jewell; seventh on countback with 35 points Mary Kier; eighth Cherry James.
All these ladies are Okehampton members. In ninth place with 34 points was Mrs H Clarke from Brean Golf Club.
The Captain's Prize, for the best scores on the par 3 holes, was won by Janet Hatch, Okehampton, with 14 points.
Their were nine 2s on the day — Okehampton unless stated: Mrs S Button, Crediton; Amanda Clifford; Mrs P Crossfield, Hele Park; Mrs C Gee, Launceston; Pam Jarman (two); Marcia Jones; Mrs Rendall, St Austell and Mrs K Rowe, Tavistock. Each 2 was worth 13 balls.
The afternoon 13 hole foursomes was won with 35 points by Maureen Willcocks and Cherry James. In second place were Dawn Phillott and Mrs B Porter with 21 points.
