THIS Sunday sees the arrival of competitors from across the South West visiting Okehampton for the town's own cycling hill climb.
The first open event of its kind in the town is expected to be the finale to the summer cycling season. The competitors, starting at minute intervals, will ascend Station Road and Tors Road until they finish near the Army Camp.
Starting from Simmons Park, the 1.3-mile course climbs 165 metres onto Dartmoor. The fastest finishers are expected to cover the distance within six and a half minutes.
Five Okehampton Cycle Club members are entered in the 17-strong field. Although familiar with the climb, the eventual winner is expected to be a specialist in the discipline.
The hill climb is expected to become an annual event with such classic and testing terrain to be covered. The starting time is 2pm.
