AFTER nine months of meetings and planning the countdown period for the flower festival at St Michael?s Church, Spreyton, has arrived.

The three day festival starts on Friday June 6 and runs until June 8, from 10am to 5.30pm.

It is the first of this kind of event at the church ? it also helps to celebrate the 40th St Michael?s Fayre and bellringing competition on Saturday June 21.

This will be an anxious few days for organisers and those creating the displays, but a successful outcome is the reward for the time and effort put into the festival.

Those organising the event and the parochial church council are very grateful to the local organisations who have accepted the invitation to make a display.

While visiting the displays there are many features of interest at the church, including the Uncle Tom Cobley family grave, two ancient fonts, the rood stairs, tinners? rabbits, the very unusual granite altar visible for the first time on this occasion, and the avenue of lime trees with the old oak tree alongside.

The new village hall will be open each day for light lunches and afternoon teas, with toilet and parking facilities at that venue.
