Devon Cup first round
Okehampton 11
Plymouth Albion 40
OKEHAMPTON travelled to Beacon Park to face a national division side, Plymouth Albion, on Sunday.
Albion, made up of first squad members including the first team captain, the Cornwall hooker and Steve Waklin on the wing, met the ferocity of the Okehampton pack, who showed no respect to their opponents.
Okehampton had by far the best of the first 20 minutes and were unfortunate not to score with two missed penalties and a try begging out wide.
Plymouth, however, did work their way into the match and at 9-6 just before half-time were controlling play, but still looked considerably stretched.
Two quick tries just before the whistle took Okehampton by surprise and Plymouth had a comfortable cushion.
Plymouth continued to dominate quick phases of play but faded badly towards the end with Okehampton full of running controlling the last 15 minutes, scoring through Adam Curtis and peppering the line as the final whistle sounded.
The players and coach were quite pleased and proud of their performance.
Bryce Griffiths was named Okehampton's man of the match and definitely caught the eye of Graham Dawe, maybe Okehampton will see greater heights reached by some of their emerging talents in the near future.
