WHEN Times employee Sue Nash tried to put her best foot forward she discovered she had two left feet.
Returning from a day's shopping in France with friends, Sue, from Princetown, decided to try on her stylish new boots on the ferry — only to discover she had been given two left boots!
Sue's friend and colleague Lynn Bond said the 'faux pas' had caused much hilarity on the return journey.
Sue, Lynn and Lyn Roberts, who all work for the Times, had enjoyed a day out shopping in Cherbourg.
The following day, Sue phoned the Cherbourg Chamber of Commerce to get the number of the shop in which she had bought the boots.
She said: 'When I rang the shop, I said to them "Parlez-vous Anglais?", which is about the only French I know.
'The voice at the other end immediately said "Ah, the lady with two left boots!"
'It turned out they'd noticed what had happened and had tried to catch us at the ferry port.'
Staff at the shop, which is called Taneo, have agreed to send Sue a right boot.
Sue said she and her two travelling companions had bought eleven pairs of shoes between them on the trip, although they had not set out with footwear in mind.
'You could say it wasn't so much a booze cruise as a shoes cruise!' she quipped.
