AGE Concern Okehampton is holding an open day at its new premises in the centre of town on Tuesday next week (July 24).
The charity has moved from Crediton Road to new offices at 2 North Street.
The open day runs from 10.30am to 2.30pm. Manager Lindsey Svensson said everyone was welcome to come along.
‘Now we are at 2 North Street, next to the library close to the junction with Fore Street, we are much more accessible to anyone over 50 years of age who wants to drop in for a chat, information, help with the internet, the unavoidable and incomprehensible forms, or anything else causing problems,’ she said.
‘We are an independent charity, not allied to Age UK or any other national group so we rely on money we raise ourselves and from grant giving organisations such as Okehampton United Charities.’
The charity was founded back in 1990, being based initially in premises in The Arcade in the town centre before moving out to Crediton Road. It has now moved back into the centre of town in a bid to be more accessible to people.
‘We are not a charity shop but do have a range of craft items made by our craft group members which we will sell to cover the costs of materials — do have a look at the window display!’ added Lindsey.
‘We are also continuing to run our nail cutting service at our foot clinic in the hospital every other Friday.’
The offices are open on Mondays from 10.30am to 2.30pm, on Tuesdays from 10am to 1pm and on Wednesdays from 10.30am and 2.30pm. Its work is supported by a number of volunteers and new volunteers are always welcome.
Consultations are available by appointment on Thursdays and Fridays, contact [email protected] and 01837 55838.
