THE vital role played by volunteers goes under the spotlight in West Devon next week, during National Volunteers Week.

The week, from June 1 and 7, is designed to highlight the wide range of opportunities available for volunteering within the community ? and to demonstrate how easy it is to get involved.

A Volunteers? Fair is being held at Bedford Square in Tavistock on Wednesday June 2 between 10am and 2pm, when there will be information available about local organisations and the sort of help they need to provide their services.

Jan, Julia and Theresa, staff from Tavistock Volunteer Centre, will be on hand to answer any questions from the public ? for example, how much time should volunteers give and if volunteers may still continue to receive state benefits.

Theresa said: ?Visitors to the volunteer centre are usually surprised by the range of opportunities on offer ? and how easy it is to volunteer, even if you have only a little time to spare.?

The Volunteer Centre is open from 10am until 2pm every week from Tuesday to Friday where visitors can peruse a huge range of volunteering opportunities for all ages and abilities.

Anyone who would like to find out the rewards and benefits of being a volunteer is welcomed to the fair on Wednesday or to the volunteer centre.
