STUDENTS in their final year at Tavistock College will be able to take part in the experience of a lifetime through an adventure activity programme sponsored and funded by the New Opportunities Fund.

This is the third year Tavistock College has successfully secured places on the Getaway activity programme.

The Tavistock Youth Office-organised Devon Challenge Project offers a five-day residential course, featuring a range of outdoor adventurous activities including caving, kayaking, mountain biking, moorland walking, archery, gorge walking, climbing and abseiling.

The residential course objectives will focus on the development of self-confidence, commitment and teamwork. It aims to help young people find out more about themselves at what is a major crossroads in their lives.

The course will be held at Pixies Holt residential centre, Princetown, from Monday, July 22 to Friday, July 26. Accommodation, food and transport will be provided free of charge thanks to a Government grant, so participants will only need to find pocket money.

The outdoor education activities will be led by qualified Devon County Council leaders. All equipment will be provided, including waterproof clothing and footwear.

There are a limited number of 12 free places on the week, and details of how to apply are available from the Youth Office of Tavistock College.
