IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league Okehampton A maintained their perfect start to the season and are now clear leaders at the top of the table with a 0-10 win away to Academy A.

Academy A put up a strong performance and the Okehampton College players are improving with every match. Academy A scores were Tom Pengelly (0), Tom Pearce (0), Ben Hill (0). Okehampton A scores were Barry Denner (3), Barry Vaughan (3), Tony Howick (3). Okehampton A also won the doubles and secure a bonus point for the 10-0 win.

Bridestowe also secured a bonus point with a 0-10 win away to Anchorage B. John Watson took Phil Down to five sets and John and Jenny Gilbert only lost the doubles to Mark Tancock and Phil Down in the fifth.

Anchorage B scores were Dave Wilson (0), John Watson (0), Jenny Gilbert (0). Bridestowe scores were Mark Fogerty (3), Mark Tancock (3), Phil Down (3).

 Honours were even in the match between The J Team and Anchorage A. Naomi Jackson maintained her 100% record with another maximum in the singles and Naomi and Steve Tyler beat Martin Fowler and Bob Vella in the fifth set to take the doubles and snatch the draw.

The J Team scores were Naomi Jackson (3), Steve Tyler (1), Sarah Jackson (0). Anchorage A scores were Colin Brooker (1), Bob Vella (2), Martin Fowler (2).

Tavistock A took on The Young Ones with the continually improving Haskell brothers (who also maintain their 100% records) both securing maximums.

Andy Moppett took Fred Phillips to the fifth set but the doubles served up the highlight of the evening as Fred Phillips and Roger Bowkett took on George and Edward Haskell. In a close contest George and Edward eventually won 8-11, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 12-14 to win 3-7 on the night.

Tavistock A scores were Fred Phillips (1), Peter Hicks (1), Roger Bowkett (1). The Young Ones scores were George Haskell (3), Edward Haskell (3), Andy Moppett (0).

In division one Oke Young Ones B played their first league match against last season's division one side North Wyke. Although North Wyke ran out 0-10 winners the youngsters can be proud of their performance.

Harry Bryant took Dave Scholefield and Jill Dilley to the fourth and Paulo Dumont to the fifth set. Munkela Elkins also took Dave and Paulo to the fourth set. Kieran Coyle also put in a good first league performance. The doubles between Harry and Munkela and Paulo and Jill proved to be a closely fought match with the North Wyke players eventually winning out 8-11, 10-12, 11-9, 9-11.
