THE A386 between Grenofen and Horrabridge will be closed overnight due to road surface damage following an accident and chemical spill, police have confirmed.

The accident involved a heavy goods vehicle and a car at Magpie Bridge near Horrabridge just after 11am..

Two 200 litre chemical drums came off the lorry and were leaking.

A man and a woman from the car were treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics.

Four fire appliances and three specialist vehicles, police and the Environment Agency also in attendance.

A 50 metre cordon was set up and residents advised to keep windows and doors closed.

Two 200 litre drums were contained and removed from the scene.

The A386 was closed due to road damage and highways diversions were put in place.

The community of Horrabridge has been praised for keeping the traffic moving and keeping everyone cheerful during the traffic chaos which continued for many hours.
