ARTISTS across West Devon will be opening their studios to the public during September. A total of 37 artists from the area are participating in this year?s Devon Art Works Open Studios event, which runs from September 8 to 23. Guides detailing studios taking part and their location and opening times are available from tourist centres and libraries. Road signs will assist in the following of the trail. Artist trails with more detailed maps are also available from cafés, galleries and other similar locations. A wide range of artists is participating, from painters from various traditions to photographers, sculptors, ceramicists, felt and quilt workers, and video and installation artists. There will be a preview of work by local artists in the cattle market café in Tavistock during opening hours until September 28.###################################### The launch will be celebrated in both Okehampton and Tavistock, with events at the Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton on September 4 for the opening of an exhibition of Dartmoor-based artists and in Bedford Square in Tavistock on Friday, September 7, featuring a miniature of the Dartmoor museum by Oddbodies. The event has expanded and this year will see studios across the whole county being opened simultaneously for the first time, with more than 500 artists exhibiting. It follows on from the Nine Days of Art events staged regularly since 2000. One of the artists is Frances Thomas, whose work will be on show at Clearbrook Village Hall on September 8, 9, and 14 to 18. Her subjects and themes are the people and activities in her Dartmoor community.
