DAY trippers to the Tamar Valley will soon be able to discover some of its secrets.

The Calstock Parish Tourism Network, a group of nearly a dozen organisations, got together last week to look at ways of better marketing the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

One suggestion was a series of information sheets aimed at the 'stay for a day' visitors, with themes such as: Nature and the Countryside; Train, Ferry and Foot — a guide to walks that link to other modes of transport; Heritage, Mining and Railways; Arts and Crafts Trail; What to do with Children and a sheet detailing one-off events, to be added to the already available Footpath leaflets, covering Calstock and Gunnislake.

The sheets, marked with a distinct image of the Tamar Valley, will be available after Easter from B&Bs, shops and garages, locally and in Plymouth.

'We are hoping to suggest good days out which will encourage people to venture a little further than the river and the roads into the woodlands and tracks around the parish as well as detailing the excellent facilities provided for visitors by local businesses,' said Jo Dixon, director of the Calstock Development Trust, which supports the network with the Tamar Valley Countryside Service.

Other plans include a website to promote the area and ideas to attract visitors to stay longer.
