A 'BIG Sing' was one of the focal points of the Easter concert at Tavistock College, with more than 100 lower school students taking to the enlarged stage to perform two powerful and emotive songs.

Sarah Pappin, head of music at the college, said the evening was 'a huge success', which was down to the sheer wealth of talent of the students.

The concert opened with an explosive drumming trio performance by Year 10 students, Beni Evans, Callum Coley and Jake Huges.

Next, Year 8 rock bands took to the stage. The bands had only formed in the previous six to eight weeks and it was their debut performance. 'Their hard work paid off and they were outstanding,' said Ms Pappin.

Other highlights from the evening included performances from the Year 7 operas, Flute Juice, African drumming groups, the hugely inspirational Year 10 and 11 students, Gospel Choir, Matt Eglinton and Ruth Douglas.

'The professionalism, enthusiasm and exuberance all 160 performers showed on the night was exceptional and made this an evening many will never forget,' said Ms Pappin, who congratulated all students involved and thanked the staff that supported the event.

'For many of the students this was their first public performance and all the more reason why this concert was so special,' she said.
