THE Royal British Legion is pleased to advise war widows that the Grant-in-Aid Scheme, run exclusively by the Pilgrimage Department of the Royal British Legion, has recently been extended by the Government for a further period of two years to March 31 2001.

However this does not mean there is still plenty of time for war widows to make that first visit to their husband's grave, the Royal British Legion does not visit all destinations every year.

This year is the 55th anniversary of Anzio and Cassino, the Normandy Landings and the biggest airborne operation of World War II at Arnhem. There are pilgrimages to Holland (two), Normandy (two), South Italy (two) as well as many other countries.

War widows are reminded that only one visit to their husband's grave can be made under the Grant Scheme, although they are still welcome to make further visits, but at the normal full cost. This scheme applies equally to those widows who remarried.

A war widow visiting South Italy would pay £88 against a non-sponsored widow and other travellers full cost of £645.

Those who are interested in going on a Remembrance visit are asked to apply as soon as possible to the Pilgrimage Department, Royal British Legion Village, Aylesford, Kent, ME20 7NX, telephone 01622 716720 or Fax 01622 715768.
