GLORIOUS weather greeted the 25 volunteers and mascot Womble the dog who met at The Wharf for Tidy Tavi's 21st litter-pick last Saturday.

New volunteers included residents who have only recently moved to Tavistock and Sarah, a young person from Gunnislake.

Four teams covered the usual routes around Tavistock from Monksmead, Pixon Lane, Whitchurch Road, town centre and Bank and Taylor Squares.

Leader Jane Miller and her team used dustpans and brushes to tackle dropped cigarette butts at the bus station — an ever-present problem in spite of the 'litter bin' ashtrays.

Twenty bags of litter were collected and team leaders commented how there is much less litter in Tavistock since Tidy Tavi began.

Team members also had an offer of a refreshing complimentary cup of tea thanks to two local businesses — PJ's Fish and Chips and Bob's Eastend Café. Tidy Tavi is delighted these two local businesses are backing its campaign.

The next litter-pick will be on August 3. Volunteers should meet at The Wharf car park at 9.50am, finish by noon. Equipment is provided, but please bring protective gloves. New volunteers welcome.
