DURING a recent visit to Tavistock I recalled that, as a child, I used to hear Home Sweet Home played on the town's carillion, along with a number of other tunes. However, for the duration of my stay, the carillion was silent. Does it still work?
What a pity that part of the town's history is not being enjoyed by locals and visitors alike, the carillion was something that made Tavistock stand out from every other English market town.
Hopefully, I will hear the bells ring out on my next visit when Tavistock will be celebrating its centenary.
