A TAVISTOCK soldier, who returned safe and sound from the Gulf last week, has submitted this photograph to thank the people of the town for their generosity and support during the Iraq conflict.

Sgt Rupert Read, a former student at Kelly College, was deployed for action in February and his time in the intense desert heat was made easier by the arrival of parcels containing food, toiletries and books donated to Tavistock post office.

A total of 55 boxes and 26 packets, weighing 160kg, were dispatched by the post office to British troops, after an appeal was launched during the conflict.

Rupert?s mother Jennie Read said: ?The photograph of Rupert is his way of thanking the people of Tavistock for their overwhelming support.?
