SEVENTEEN children from the Dartmoor Co-operative Learning Trust were 'launched into space' in an exciting gifted and talented workshop last week.

Okehampton Primary hosted the event, which saw youngsters launch a rocket on school grounds into the air, and design their own rocket based on physical properties.

Later in the day they were challenged to design a 'Great British Space Dinner' for British astronaut Tim Peake, who will be launched into space in December 2015.

Children presented their meal ideas alongside their inventions for cooking and eating their healthy balanced meals.

The workshop was part of a new programme of events for gifted and talented primary school children called the Socrates Society which aims to provide challenging thinking opportunities for gifted and talented children both from Okehampton Primary School and from schools across the county.
