Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 3

Harlyn 2

Mary Tavy 1

MARY Tavy made a 100-plus mile round trip for the second time in two weeks to face a competitive Harlyn side.

Wind and rain ruled the day. Throughout, Tavy failed to find any rhythm and with the wind in their favour failed to make headway. It was Harlyn who took the lead with a break down the centre. Tavy defender James managed to chase back and get his tackle in, only to see the ball squirm back into the path of the grateful home attacker who found the net with ease from close range.

After consulting the linesman, whose flag was raised almost immediately, the referee allowed the goal, much to the dismay of the Tavy team and followers.

With one goal down and the wind to face in the second period Tavy needed something special to turn it around and boy did it come - Shaun James, straight from a free kick just inside the opponents? half, saw his wind-assisted rocket of an effort gradually gain height and hit the top corner of the net from 40 yards.

One would have thought such a goal would have raised the dampened spirits of the Tavy side on this rain sodden day but this was never further from the truth.

The second half saw the visitors struggle against the strong wind and although a few chances were created Harlyn with the wind held the upper hand. The winner came midway in the half and from then on the match became stalemate with the ball almost impossible to see, and both teams were glad to hear the whistle go.
