WE are volunteers in a charity shop and on Wednesday morning, February 18, a lady from Liskeard  came in and expressed her regret at the closure of the Old Folk's Rest Room.

Within an hour, two people from Plymouth also said they were sorry to see that it had closed as they had made good friends there over a cup of tea and had always looked forward to coming to Tavistock.

It seems to us a very sad reflection on today's society that a valued facility offering the opportunity to make friends and meet friends has to give way to commercial pressure, particularly when there are already many empty shops in the town.

In view of our experience, we do hope that the proposed plan to move the facility to Court Gate will be accepted.
