EXBOURNE Local History Group's participation in the English Heritage Open Day on Saturday September 10 is coming together nicely, with members working hard to research the village's history.
The theme this year is 'Exbourne 100 years ago', with the focus on life in the village in 1911 and the period.
In one of the day's highlights, children from Exbourne Primary School will re-enact life in a 1911 classroom, with records of the school also available.
A number of other village records will be on hand, including the 1911 census, the 1910 village valuation survey, the electoral roll and parish council records.
Copies of the Okehampton Gazette and Advertiser and Devon and Exeter Gazette will also be available to look at, revealing a fascinating insight into the issues concerning residents in the area 100 years ago.
Admission to the day is free, with group members selling cream teas to cover costs. The exhibition takes place in Exbourne Village Hall from 11.30am to 6pm. All visitors are welcome.
Co-ordinator Dave Weeks is appealing for anyone with memorabilia of the Coronation of George V or local photographs of that time period to put them forward for the exhibition. To contact Dave, please call 01837 851379.
