THERE'S a chance to enjoy the rugged beauty of Kit Hill with a guided walk on October 28 and a volunteer day on October 31.

On October 28 visitors can take a walk through the history of granite quarrying on the hill and learn more about the railways built to transport the stone.

The free, guided ramble takes place from 10am to 2.30pm and starts from the Kit Hill incline car park (SX 375 723). Walkers should bring a packed lunch and a drink. To book a place, ring 01872 323468.

On October 31 volunteers can join in Make a Difference Day and help out with some heathland management on the hill. The day will involve cutting and burning mature gorse near the Bronze Age barrow at Kit Hill's main entrance. The session runs from 10am to 3pm and volunteers can join in at any time during the day.

Participants should meet at the Kit Hill entrance car park (SX 383 713), wear old clothes, stout footwear and waterproofs and bring a packed lunch and a drink. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. To find out more, ring 01579 370030.
