THE flyer that came through our door sounded promising: Tavistock Diverse Extraordinary Fair — Back to school fun. Raffle, Craft stalls, sweets, Birds of prey, Ice cream and much much more!
After plenty of nagging, I took my son last Sunday, on the way seeing sign. 'Free Fair!'
Walking up the stairs in the town hall, my son, aged eight, was very excited.
Great was our disappointment. The craft stalls there were of no interest for children, the raffle prizes likewise.
To touch the bird of prey — pay charges. To decorate a small cupcake —pay!
There really was nothing of the promised back to school fun, our visit took in total two minutes, my son's face getting longer and longer.
Overall it was a great disappointment but worst of all, there was nothing for children to do.
I spoke to several children, and parents, all feeling the same. The children were all hoping for 'hands on' fun, not a fair selling crafts made by others.
