STUDENTS at Tavistock College recently visited an inner city school in London to compare the similarities and differences between the young people's lives as part of a year-long project.
Year 9 students at the college have been involved in a project called CCUK (Community Cohesion UK) with the Charter School in London. Both schools exchanged information and emails and each made a film about their school to show what life is like for them.
The project is to explore the similarities and differences between young people's lives from a rural area like Tavistock and those of young people in an inner city school.
Nineteen students from Tavistock visited the Charter School to meet their new friends and experience life in London. They marvelled at the amount of buildings which were built on such a small area and returned home appreciating the open spaces surrounding the college.
The Tavistock students visited lessons, attended music sessions and met the Charter School Year Council to plan the next phase of the project. In the evening, students from both schools attended War Horse at the National Theatre and walked around Covent Garden.
Organisers of the trip expressed thanks to the headmaster of Charter School, David Shepherd, Alison Harbottle, a former student of Tavistock College and now head of maths at Charter School, and to Dr Webb, head of Year 9.
