SEX equality came to Winkleigh this year. For the first time in more than 700 years, the town?s fair had a Fair King as well as a Fair Queen. Both the Queen and King, Rebecca Sharpe and Luke Weston, were year six pupils at Winkleigh Primary School. The fair was officially opened on Sunday July 8 by chief executive of Flybe International James French. Among the many events which took place during the week-long festivities was a traditional ?well dressing?, a sacred concert with the Beaford choir, a performance by Hatherleigh Silver Band and a balloon release. Children enjoyed a treasure hunt, fancy dress competition, disco and skittles, while vintage cars, morris dancers, live music and pottery workshops kept adults entertained. Children?s sports were also organised, as well as races around the village and a grand tug-of-war.
