MORWELLHAM Quay and the building of the Tavistock canal are among the main attractions of Tavistock Library?s programme of events in the first week of October. A free visit to the quay will take place on Tuesday, October 2, along with a historical re-enactment of the building of the canal by engineer John Taylor. The canal, which linked Tavistock to Morwellham, the nearest tidal port on the Tamar, paved the way for the development of the mines. The event, sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Lottery, includes transport between the library and the quay and will run from 9.30am to 3pm. Wednesday, October 3 features storytelling workshops for adults to learn new skills. The workshops, run by local storyteller Dave Oliver, will take place at the library between 9.30am and 12pm and from 1pm to 3.30pm. Please contact the Library on 01822 612218 to book a place or for more information. Other events include computer sessions on using the internet to explore family history and National Poetry Day, both on October 4, and bookstart workshops for the under 5?s on October 5. The library is also planning an evening of music, readings and entertainment on Wednesday, November 21.
