TAVISTOCK Recycling Centre worker Adam Martin knows how to say it with flowers and that’s just what he did to give his girlfriend Wendy Norman the biggest Christmas surprise she has ever had!

If you can’t be romantic at Christmas then when can you be? Adam decided to buy Wendy 550 roses, her favourite flower, one for every day that he has known her.

The ten bunches were delivered to the Tavistock Bus Station Kiosk where Wendy spends each day making sure her customers are happy. Adam was not present when the flowers were delivered as he said he would have been ‘too embarrassed’.

‘Wendy works really hard,’ said Adam. ‘She bought the business two years ago and all she does is work so I thought it would be good to give her a boost and surprise her — I’ve never done anything like this before.

‘I was thinking about what to get her for Christmas, so I thought this could be one of her Christmas presents.’

The gesture by Adam, who has known Wendy for 18 months, put a huge smile on Wendy’s face: ‘Adam knows I like flowers and he buys them for me most weeks,’ she said. ‘I had 54 on my birthday and now this. I wasn’t expecting it. I am a very lucky lady.

‘My favourite flowers are roses and now I will have a house full of roses for Christmas.

‘Adam is quite hard on the outside but a big softy on the inside. He is also quite spontaneous and romantic. This is by far the craziest thing he has ever done though — I think he’s nuts but a great guy too. I think I’ll keep him.’
