SO, West Devon planning committee has finally approved the application for extra houses in North Tawton as per the front page article in the Okehampton Times of August 22.
In the leaflet No 2 produced by the council, commenting on planning applications, it states that 'objections are never simply ignored'.
This is patently not the case. I and many others from the town have expressed our concerns over the inevitable traffic congestion in the town centre, which is bad enough on many occasions now, but will be even more chaotic with the increased number of cars, not just the new occupants, but their visitors as well.
Building 35 car parking spaces on the Blogg's Garage site will not alleviate the problem that much, especially as part of the site is earmarked for extra housing, where some of the residents will no doubt use the car parking spaces themselves.
According to the article, the scheme architect, Sid Parkes, felt most problems had now been overcome. Problems for whom Mr Parkes?
The council or the townspeople? It would appear, as far as traffic congestion in the town centre is concerned, the planning committee has a blind spot on this issue.
