A MAN accused of battering another man with a concrete lump, a fence post and a traffic cone has been remanded to appear at court next February.
Lewis Shorthouse, aged 27, was arrested by police in the early hours of November 5, after a number of incidents in Geasons Lane and Ridgeway in Plympton.
Shorthouse, of Tavistock, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent after allegedly assaulting his 54-year-old victim in Geasons Lane.
He is alleged to have first hurled a concrete lump at the man’s face, then repeatedly struck him with a three-foot traffic cone before grabbing a fence support from a nearby building site and striking the man’s leg.
The victim was left with a fractured leg, fractures to his arms, cheekbone and eye socket. He underwent emergency surgery on his leg and will need to remain in hospital for several weeks, with further surgery to his arm and face, before he can be discharged.
Shorthouse was also charged with causing violence to secure entry following an incident at a property at Ridgeway, (a short while after the alleged Geasons Lane incident), two counts of common assault and one count of causing criminal damage.
He was remanded to next appear at Plymouth Crown Court on February 17.
