ISSUES of anti-social behaviour in Okehampton are to be raised with the police and crime commissioner.
Okehampton Town Council decided at its meeting this week to write to the commissioner Alison Hernandez as the number of incidents in the town and Simmons Park were increasing, it said.
The council also agreed to send a recent article from the Okehampton Times which detailed a ‘violent incident’ in the Victorian Arcade last month and a police appeal for witnesses to anti social behaviour which had flared up in the town since lockdown.
Sgt Nathan Walker said at the time: ‘In recent weeks Okehampton has seen several reports of anti-social behaviour. I am very understanding of the impact this type of crime has on our community and I would like the residents of the town to be reassured that action is being taken against those that carry out these activities.’
Whilst the town council is appreciative of the work that is being done by local officers, members said that a letter to the police and crime commissioner would highlight the seriousness of the situation.
Town clerk Emma James said the town council was looking at CCTV for the town and the park but everything had been put on hold at the moment because of coronavirus.
‘With lockdown easing and the summer holidays now upon us we are concerned that there may be more incidents of anti social behaviour,’ she said.
