SHEBBEAR College U13s had a wonderful end to their season when they finished third in the Devon Cup competition at Cornwood Cricket Club last week.
Despite scoring 132 without losing a wicket in the semi-final, with Tom Capleman-Lynes scoring an unbeaten 61 and James Dawe 42, their bowlers were unable to contain a strong Devonport High School side and they lost the match with seven balls to go.
However, they saved their best for the third/fourth place play-off in the afternoon against South Dartmoor College. Chasing a daunting 170 to win in 20 overs, they were given a great start by Bailey Ward (39) and Reece Stanbury (43).
Then, still needing 54 from the last six overs, it was Tom Cappleman-Lynes again with 53 not out who helped Shebbear snatch a thrilling victory, hitting 16 off the final over — 8 coming from the last two balls.
