THIS year marks the 65th anniversary of the formation of the 4th Tavistock Guides.
The unit first met in March 1953 in Tavistock Methodist Church under the leadership of the minister’s daughter Helen Kick and today it continues to meet at the church and is a thriving unit of 36 girls, led by church members.
Past and present members and leaders of the Guide unit (pictured) enjoyed a 65th anniversary celebration evening, with attendees travelling from as far afield as Bristol.
Some of the founding members attended and joined in the celebration and shared their memories and photographs of past meetings and camps.
The unit has seen almost a 1,000 Guides pass through its doors and produced a number of Queen’s Guides and other notable achievements.
