TWO Okehampton women were presented with certificates of recognition for more than 25 years? service as the faces of the Salvation Army in the town. Mrs Joyce Cuff and Mrs Stella Vanstone were presented with their certificates at a meeting at Okehampton Baptist Church last Tuesday week. Joyce and Stella have each served the community for 25 years, representing the Salvation Army?s work in Okehampton. Both have visited the residential homes and hospitals on a daily basis during that time, making little gifts for the residents, providing a listening ear to personal concerns and taking an interest in people?s well-being. They have been known as ?The Hallelujah Twins? with their ?God Bless You? greeting and bright encouraging smiles as they made visits in the Okehampton area. Joyce has also run a market stall for many years where she distributes the Army?s papers and spreads its message. Fellow Christians from the various churches in the town attended, including the Rev Mark Thomas, curate, All Saints Church; the Rev David Waters, New Life Church; Ron Packer, the Gospel Hall; Charles Westlake, Okehampton Baptist Church, and the Rev Mike Davies, chairman of Christians Together in Okehampton and the deputy mayor of the town, who presented two bouquets of flowers. The ladies were joined for the occasion by the Salvation Army South West divisional commander Major Cliff Bradbury who conducted the service and presented two commemorative illuminated certificates.
