FROM giants and vikings to roundheads and rockers — 2,000 years of history will be on parade in Chagford's millennium spectacular on Saturday.
Organised by Chagford Carnival Committee with funding from the lottery 'Awards for All' scheme, the Millennium Heritage Cavalcade will be the highspot in 12 hours of free entertainment in Chagford Square.
Starting at noon with jesters, troubadours, drummers, dancers, rock bands, pop bands and pipe bands, the focus will then turn onto townsfolk who have delved into the depths of their imagination to come up with wild and wacky ideas for the procession.
The grand procession moves off at 6.30pm and will be followed by a lively evening of dancing and fun.
'It will be Chagford's own interpretation of history,' said the event's artistic director Mary Morton .
'I am not sure how many people will be taking part — Chagford people notoriously leave things to the last minute and then it turns out to be something that is really good fun.'
The 1969 moon landing is turning into a 'loony' landing with cows jumping over the moon, there will be giants, a viking ship, a genuine 1930s touring car and Sinclair C5 and World War Two will be represented by 'Dad's Army'.
'We are just praying for good weather,' added Mrs Morton. 'I am confident it is going to be a big success.'
