FINCH Foundry in Sticklepath, Okehampton opened its doors to blacksmiths from across the UK last weekend for the celebration of St Clement, the patron saint of blacksmiths.
Thirty blacksmiths gathered at Finch Foundry to take part in the annual craft competition, which this year involved making a hinge.
The day-long celebration also included Morris dancing and ‘firing the anvil’, a tradition of blowing up an anvil.
Finch Foundry is the last working water powered forge in the UK, and is one of only two places nationally that continue to celebrate St Clement’s day.
