The Royal Oak, Meavy
Saturday 25th till Monday 27th August
Wild Food BBQ and Cider Festival
This is our premier Cider Festival event of the year, where you can try scrumpy apple and pear ciders from local cider makers. The award-winning Royal Oak Inn offers great food for both adults and children. This year to bring out your wild side! we will be offering a Wild Food BBQ with a choice of Crocodile, Kangaroo, Zebra, Alpaca, Wild Boar, Buffalo and Camel Burgers. As well as Howells of Tavistock local beef burgers for the less adventurous. Try the new local ale from Tavy Ales 'Tavy Best Bitter'. It is a 4.3% traditional full-bodied honey brown bitter with a well rounded malt flavour and some early bitterness. The aroma is of malt with hints of fruit.
The Royal Oak Inn is situated within the Dartmoor National Park, in an idyllic location next to the village green in Meavy. The pub is a former 15th-century church house inn. It takes its name from the oak tree on the village green which is reputedly some 800 years old. This is one of the few remaining traditional Dartmoor pubs, with a flagstone floor, old beams and a large open fireplace. The history of the inn and its surroundings are a source of great pride for Julie and Stephen. If character is want you want from your visit then you could find no better place!
Live music outside The Oak Saturday afternoon with “Jumping Out Duo” and in the evening “Strings Attached”.
Sunday afternoon we will have “Secondnature” followed by “Docs Rox” and then local band “Crisis” in the evening.
Bank holiday Monday is village day - bring your deck chairs and join us on the green for a cream tea with live music through the afternoon provided by the Eight strong Swing and Jazz Band “Desperate Measures”followed by “Mr E Duo” and then “JD and the Longfellows”, a five- piece-plus country skifflebilly band from the depths of Catford, London.
