OXENHAM ARMS
The beautiful Oxenham Arms Hotel and Restaurant at South Zeal has now reopened under the new ownership and management of Lyn Powell, the Restaurant and Bar Food Head Chef Adam McPhillips who has joined “The Ox” from his Head Chef role in a West London restaurant. A full lunchtime menu, evening dinner and bar meals is available, customers can eat and drink in the lovely main bar with log fires , front lounge bar, snug or formal dining is available in the restaurant . This ancient 12th Century Hotel, built originally as a monastery around the famous neolithic South Zeal standing stone which stands in the snug bar is an ideal venue serving a great range of daily fresh gastro influenced exciting dishes and a menu with new dishes available every week complemented by great Dartmoor Ales, Ciders and international wines . The formal dining restaurant, part of the original 12th Century building looks up out to the monastery garden, wonderful beer garden with views up to the Cosdon Beacon of Dartmoor. Peter Tavy Inn
The village of Peter Tavy on the western flanks of Dartmoor feels remote but is easy to reach being just a mile off the A386 two miles north of Tavistock. The village pub, the Peter Tavy Inn, is a charming 15th century building with low beams, slate floors and blazing fires in the winter. The pub is reknowned for good food and well-kept local ales. Everything on the menu is home-made, from their Chicken Liver Pate to their famous Steak & Stilton Pies and Sticky Toffee Puddings. Vegetarians too are well looked after, with at least three mains to choose from. There is a good sized car-park and walkers, cyclists, dogs and children are all welcome. Don’t miss the PYO season!!
Despite the horrendous weather we have been having through June, Lifton Farm Shop’s PYO is still alive and kicking. There has been moderate wastage on the first crop, but the crop which was covered three weeks ago have a heavy crop and enable us to offer all weather picking. All on a bed of golden straw, which is how mother nature must have intended this king of summer fruit. So don’t worry about the weather-we are ready for all eventualities, with under cover picking, we still have a long season ahead. The more you pick the cheaper they are so get out in the fields today! We have amazing ready picked raspberries and strawberries in our shop, which are a real treat in many desserts, along with a great array of other quality produce. Also served in our large restaurant are hearty breakfasts, morning coffee, hot & cold lunches, and traditional cream teas. Here at the London Inn we feel spoilt by the availability of so much fresh local fish, meat and other local produce that enables us to offer the standard of menu at affordable prices.
