The Royal Oak
The Royal Oak Inn is a free house owned by Burrator Parish Council. It is situated within the Dartmoor National Park, in an idyllic location next to the village green in Meavy. The pub is a former 15th-century church house inn. It takes its name from the oak tree on the village green which is reputedly some 800 years old. This is one of the few remaining traditional pubs, with a flagstone floor, old beams and a large open fireplace. Some of the seats are pews from the adjacent church. And the wood fire provides a warm welcome on those cold winter evenings. If character is what you want from your visit then you could find no better place! Drinking: We are renowned for the well- kept quality of our real ales, we always have four on offer: Dartmoor IPA (Inmates Pale Ale) 4% and Jail Ale 4.8% from Dartmoor Brewery, based in nearby Princetown. Plus two guest ales. We sold over 29,000 pints of Dartmoor Ale in 2011. That means on average we put on a new keg of Devon’s finest ale every day, now you don’t get much fresher than that! If tradition is what you are after, then you must try our scrumpy cider. There is also a comprehensive wine list available. Dining: Of course you must not leave without having tried the food! Food is served seven days a week, lunch and dinner. We offer home-cooked, quality produce that is locally sourced. You certainly get a plateful for your money, but do remember to leave room for one of the tempting home-made desserts! On Sunday you can expect a traditional roast dinner – a rib of Dartmoor beef or loin of our own pork, served with homemade Yorkshire pudding and fresh seasonal vegetables. Group bookings are welcome, whether for a celebratory meal, an organised walking group, a local club or society. Give us a call and discuss your requirements. There is always something going on at The Royal Oak, so brighten up your days even more and come and join in the fun. See our web site for full details. www.royaloakinn.org.uk
