Bere Alston Carnival

2012 Bere Alston Carnival Celebrations 5th - 12th May Not just the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, but the many other anniversaries this year marks. All of which reflects in the theme of “Special Events”.
The festivities kick off with the Carnival Parade on Saturday May 5th. All entries are asked to assemble at the recreation field at 1.15pm for judging at 1.30pm. The procession will leave the field at 2.30pm led by “The Rubber Band” and Carnival Queen Hayley Porter with attendants Grace Dent and Katie Carr. A special part of this year’s parade includes a Queens parade featuring the many people who have represented the parish as carnival queen over the years. The longest standing queen is Eileen Hocking who unfortunately is unable to join us due to ill health but who represented us in 1946. The procession follows the local bus route and includes the Jacket bus as part of the event. Following the parade all who participate are invited to join in a tea party at the Parish Hall where the trophies and money prizes will be presented. Saturday May 6th we join alongside the BATs in a 10K run. The event is organised by Dotty Allan and more information can be obtained via http://berealstontrekkers.btck.co.uk/BerePen10k Monday is Fun Day at Bere Alston Primary School (7th May) with a day full of events sponsored by many local businesses. Attractions include: a display by Professional Trials Rider Andrei Burton; Emazdad Magician and children’s entertainer; The Peninsula Players; Tamar Valley Gym Club; Table top sale; Bouncy Castle; Sumo suits; Beer Tent by The Edgecumbe Hotel; Refreshments; Fairground Rides, and much much more, too much to mention. All for just £1 entry on the gate. Thursday 10th May the Edgecumbe Hotel invite you to join in the Quiz Night. Why not enter a team for a fun evening of knowledge testing. Come along and thrash the Carnival Committee Team. The event starts at 8.30pm, entry fee £1 per person. Max 6 per team. Friday 11th May, Bingo in the Parish Hall. Prizes of meat for full houses and carnival fayre for a line. All our events are focused around families, and so children may also join in this event, however they are not permitted to play the game which includes alcohol as a prize, and must be accompanied by an adult. Sat 12th May. An Evening Concert by Choirdial Ladies Choir in the Parish Hall. This initiates the Carnival into the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. All proceeds from this event will in turn be ploughed into the funds for the new Youth 2 Youth Building overseen by Rev Nick Law.
