CLAIRE KNIGHT Take back control of your life in 2012 with Hypnotherapy Tavistock therapist Claire Knight has been established at the Abbey Mead Natural Health Centre for 11 years, offering Hypnotherapy for may issues, such as the desire to overcome fears, phobias and anxiety and to break unwanted habits including smoking and over eating.
The introduction of the highly successful ‘Hypno Band’ (virtual gastric band) protocol to Claire’s practice has enabled many to reduce their weight, naturally and permanently. This 4 session process uses a combination of strategies to permanently change unwanted eating habits before using hypnosis to convince the subconscious that a gastric band has been fitted. This allows the stomach to feel smaller and therefore satisfied more quickly with less food.
If you are ready to make this the year of change, call Claire on 01566 783407 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on this safe, relaxing and pleasantly surprising therapy.
GENTLE YOGA EXERCISE WITH ANGELA Hatha Yoga exercise is suitable for everyone. It stretches and tones the muscles, encourages suppleness, helps to relieve tension and stress, and helps improve breathing and control of breath. No matter what age you are, you can get benefit from the practise of yoga. It helps with physical problems such as bad backs, necks and shoulders, and can also aid the digestive disorders and sleep problems. Working with the Yoga postures helps to balance and align the body and encourages an awareness of any problem areas that need extra care and attention. Working within your own limits and ability is a great part of Yoga as it is non-competitive. The medical profession is also beginning to appreciate the benefits of the gentle stretching exercises of Yoga with breath control, and are recommending patients give it a try.
NORDIC WALKING Elaine Sylvester, an accredited Dartmoor National Park Guide and Personal trainer, has started her own business leading walking tours, with a difference! "I take individuals and groups out on Dartmoor, and they meet like-minded people whilst improving their health and fitness. I've seen many friendships formed...a very positive benefit, which makes my work even more fulfilling!" For those of you planning a ski-trip this year, Elaine also runs Ski-fitness courses, and coming up in June, there is a Dartmoor Nordic Walking weekend staying on a comfortable moorland farm

Kathryn Blackie Yoga At Sadhana Yoga Studio In Tavistock New Terms Starting From 5th January Every year lots of us resolve in January to improve our health and fitness, as well as our general well-being. Many have given up their resolutions before the month is out. Make this the year that you adopt a way of living and exercising which is sustainable and adaptable to your life throughout the year. Yoga is for life not just for Post- Christmas! Yoga is an ideal way to strengthen your body and achieve a feeling of health and well-being. Digestion will be improved, postural and back problems can be eliminated, sleep can be improved, and a feeling of enthusiasm for life can be found. Yoga also offers an effective means of relaxation which is an important factor in healthy immune function as well as good mental and emotional health. Yoga also provides an effective way of maintaining or achieving a healthy weight. Maintaining a healthy weight is important to reduce the likelihood of developing a range of diseases and disorders. Yoga also can offer a bit of ‘me time’ in a busy life; a chance to spend some time just for yourself. Yoga is fun and offers a chance for you to laugh and mix with like- minded others. Yoga is suitable for everybody. You don’t need to be flexible in order to do yoga. That will develop over time. You don’t need to be strong. Your strength and stamina will develop over time. You don’t need to be able to relax easily. Your ability to relax will develop over time. All that is needed is you ... in a class ... just as you are today. I will lead you through a variety of postures to suit your age, ability or experience. I am very confident that you will enjoy the class and return for more. No two classes are ever the same; just as your body or mind are never the same on two different days. Your yoga will continue to evolve and strengthen as you do. Come to a yoga class and experience what yoga could do for you. In my studio there are classes Monday to Saturday for people with a range of abilities and experience. Please contact me to book your class. Beginners are welcome in any of my classes. See the timetable on this page or my website for details of classes. As well as classes, I also offer private sessions for individuals or small groups. Please do contact me if you would like to ask any questions.

CURVES NEW YEAR, NEW YOU! It has come round to that time of year where many of us will have made a New Year’s resolution and for some that resolution may well be to take steps to improve our fitness, health and wellbeing. Many women are put off buy the idea of joining a gym for a myriad of reasons, but often find that Curves fitness and weight management facilities are able to overcome many of these issue offering a fun, friendly and supportive environment in which to achieve your goals. Pam a current member at Curves has worked very hard to change her life and hopes by sharing her story others will also be inspired to take that first step to making a change. Pam joined Curves January 2009 after a recommendation from a friend. Pam had already started to lose weight by changing her eating habits, but knew dieting alone would not be enough to reach her long-term goal. Pam suffers from arthritis in both her hips and knees, so losing weight was paramount to improving her quality of life. Since joining Pam has lost an amazing five and a half stone and her life has been transformed. Pam no longer requires her walking stick; she is back walking the dogs and is finding exercise increasingly easier. ‘By exercising at Curves 3 times a week I have lost weight steadily and it keeps me in shape which is very important when you lose a lot of weight. My weight, body fat and blood pressure are monitored monthly; it is great to be able to see how I’m getting on and helps to keep me on track. Sometimes it feels like an effort to go to the gym, but after I’ve done my workout I’m glad I put in the effort. I really enjoy ‘Zumba in the Circuit ‘ sessions once or twice a week, it’s great fun, the staff are friendly and I like the fact they know everyone’s names and make time to have a chat’ says Pam. Why not book an appointment and see why so many women choose to come to Curves, you can call us on 01566 777545 or book via the website www.curveslaunceston.co.uk.

Reflexology Reflexology is the ancient Chinese art of foot massage. It works with the energy flows within the body helping it to balance itself. When you have a reflexology treatment you will be asked to give an overview of your health with specific information on issues that are worrying you at present. You will then be asked to remove your shoes and socks and with your feet up and in a comfortable position your feet will be massaged. For every part or organ of the body there is a point on the feet, and by massaging these points the body will work toward balancing itself. The Chinese believe that when the energy flows are blocked this is when disease occurs so it follows that clearing these flows will help the body to cure itself. This massage is deep and is very relaxing. For those of you with ticklish feet, don’t worry as it is deeper than this. Reflexology helps relaxation, improves mood, aids sleep, helps to relieve tension and improves sense of well being. Many people find reflexology useful in a variety of illnesses. Should you wish to chat with Annie as to whether reflexology is suitable for you to to book an appointment please call:- Annie Cooke BA, MAR 01822 613286 or email email@example.com Check out the website www.anniecookereflexology.co.uk
Try something different
Yoga is something many of us consider taking up to coming back to...... particularly at this time of year when we are reflecting on what changes we could make to our lives and life styles. I teach two day-time classes at the moment. Both classes are very friendly and accessible to people of all ages and from all walks of life. The ethos in both classes is to work with who you are and the body that you have: We are all different. There is a non- competitive and encouraging atmosphere with time to concentrate, and also time to laugh ... so important! In learning yoga we learn to become more at home in our bodies; more aware of ourselves. We become increasingly able to find our full range of movement and so break life-long movement patterns. We become more fluid and flexible in our bodies and so less likely to insure ourselves in other aspects of our lives. The concentration and mindfulness that develops as we practise our yoga seeps out into other areas of our lives. The relaxation practice helps our stress levels, blood pressure and general health.
