Club three ball better ball always popular

TAVISTOCK Golf Club ladies popular three ball better ball attracted 37 teams, necessitating  in a very early start. 

The club’s Nicky Gawman and Bev Ruth, together with Gilly Jarvis from Yelverton, were the winning team with 87 points. 

In second place with 81 pts were Tavistock’s  Dawn Phillott and Hilary Picton and, from China Fleet, Karen Whitby. With 79pts and claiming third place were Tavistock’s Belinda McSherry. Exeter’s Carole Raymond and Bude’s Gillian Down beat on count back the Stover/Staddon team Jackie Veale, Yvonne Dance and Liz Collier. In sixth place with 75 pts were Tavistock’s Lesley Moore, Norma Thewlis and Sue Bailey. Nearest the pin on the fourth: Ann Whittaker Teignmouth; nearest the pin on the 10th, Myra Sussex, Tavistock; nearest the pin on the 14th in two, Liz Collier, Staddon. 

In the mens Par and Kelly Bowls — first in division one with +4 was Brett Mannering; second, Gary Davies +3 and in third place Mark Taylor +1.  In division two first was Lee Bartlett +3, second Keith Stenhouse + 2 and third with 0, Chris Dicker.  

In the One Club and Putter competition, Paul Reid scored 31pts on count back from Keith Stenhouse and Ajay Patel. In the lady veterans 125 Memorial Salver, Jackie Sealy was the winner with an excellent 47 points with the runner up on 40pts Sarah Hanson.

The weather was wet for the men veterans Jim Spackman Trophy.   It was won by Dick Spackman with 36pts, who donated the trophy in memory of his father.  Julian Collinson was runner up with 34pts;  third, with 32 pts, was Dave Treble.
