THE Tavistock Community Football Club under 12’s travel to Bristol to take part in the Bristol Rovers FC junior football tournament.
With more than 170 teams entered across a number of age groups, it was a huge event that was really well supported.
The U12s had 16 teams in their age group from across Bristol and Wales which included four Bristol Rovers teams and an excellent visiting side from Llandudry.
On a baking hot day, both teams put in some excellent performances.
The Tavistock blue team was captained by Liam Raglan and the reds by Joe Short. The games were fast paced and tight.
The blues began with a tight 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers while the reds kicked off with a 2-0 win against Priory Panthers. Both teams progressed well within their groups and onto the round of last 16.
A narrow 2-1 defeat for the blues saw them exit the competition at this stage having given some superb performances in the heat.
The reds took the lead early in their game against a strong Bristol Rovers team, only to be pegged back in the last minutes to draw 1-1. In the penalty shootout, well taken penalties from Joe Short, Owen Hicks and Hayden Halfyard saw the team win through 4-3 and onto the quarter finals.
The quarter final game was a physical one where Tavistock held their own and had chances to win it, but lost out narrowly 1-0 to the eventual finalists.
