Matthew signs up for Argyle

By Contributor in Football

FOOTBALL mad Year 7 Tavistock College student, Matthew Brimacombe has been offered a two-year contract for Plymouth Argyle’s Football Academy.

Matthew, who captains the college football team and one of the youngest boys in his year, impressed coaches during a six week trial with his all round ability.

During his trial, the 11 year-old trained at Ivybridge College and then played matches on Sundays — including away games against Exeter City and Bournemouth and home to Swindon Town.

This week has been particularly busy for the youngster, he was offered the contract, trained on Tuesday and Thursday, played a friendly on the Home Park Pitch on Friday night.

On Saturday he travelled away to Southampton and played games against Academy’s from Reading, Swindon, Bath, Swansea and Southampton.

On Sunday, to cap off an exciting week for the centre midfielder, he played away against Bristol City where Matthew was made captain.

All those that know Matthew, know he is rarely seen without a football.

Last week he was even seen by his teachers kicking a ball around at the finish line of Ten Tors while watching his brother complete his 55 miles walk!
