CQ gig club captures plastic pig

By Tom French in Rowing

IT was another successful outing for Cotehele Quay Gig Club on April 8 as they were the overall winners of the seventh World Plastic Pig Pilot Gig Championships hosted by Pendeen Pilot Gig Club in Newlyn.

The event is so called because most wooden gig boats are already on the Isles of Scilly in readiness for the World Pilot Gig Champion-ships, so teams race in their plastic training gigs.

This is a repeat performance for the club, who won the event in 2014. Crews were fielded in all races with fantastic results all round in glorious weather.

CQGC results: Ladies’ A, fourth from 14; men’s Am fourth from 14;

ladies’ B (comprising a Ladies’ C crew), seventh from 14; men’ B fourth from 14; ladies’ veterans, fourth seven; men’s veterans, third from seven; under 16s, third from five and U14s, first from four.
