By Contributor in Bowls

TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club playing members met on Saturday April to commence their 103rd season.

Fifty-eight members played on a bright but chilly afternoon. Councillor Mandy Ewings, the Mayor of Tavistock bowled the first wood to officially open the season.

The club chairman, Tony Boxall, and the club captain, Tony Smith, with all the playing members, had an excellent tea with food supplied by club and social members.

This is the start of a busy season for the club with 51 mixed friendly games.

The men will take part in the Plymouth and District Evening League, Triples League, Devon County Trophy and Devon County Top Club games while the ladies will be taking part in the Plymouth and District League and Devon County Top Club matches.

Some lady and men club members will be taking part in several competitions, namely the Bowls England National champion-ships, Bowls Devon championships and the annual club competitions.
