IF Tavistock Snooker League team Conservative Z thought they had an easy fixture against Golf Club B they were very much mistaken. Given Golf B’s record in this, their first season in the league, it is possible a certain complacency crept into the Con Z’s approach to this game but they were unwise to underestimate the Golf B’s collective determination.
First to the table for Con Z was Hall, who failed to contain Gawman - the latter held his nerve in a black ball game to take the first point and set his team on the road to victory.
Symons for the Con Z, against Appleton, stumbled from one series of unforced errors to another to hand a grateful Appleton the game. Mayors for Con Z continued on his winning ways but he struggled nonetheless against an unlucky Brockington to gain his team’s only point of the evening. The normally steady and reliable Flack (junior) was less than impressive against Congo who held his opponent at bay to give the match and the evening to Golf B. The icing on the cake for Golf B was Treble’s well deserved win over Hodge, who despite calling on all his experience and resilience eventually fell to Treble’s persistence. This was a remarkable and well deserved 4 – 1 victory for the Golf B.
After some less than inspiring showings this year, West Devon B bounced back to take out West Devon D, who have had a few of their own demons to slay this season. May for WD D team, was unable to tame John Rich, who at last this season found a degree of consistency to win this game at a canter.
Murton soon had the D team level as he did enough to remove Daniel Rich.
Despite a good showing from Peters it was WB B team that took the initiative again with Roger Rich stealing his frame, albeit going right ‘down to the wire.
The match was soon secured for WB B team, thanks to a commanding display from Hoare as he managed to inflict a rare defeat on Ward.
In the final frame, Shrimpton (jnr) managed to reduce the losing deficit for West D D team as he managed to overcome a resilient showing from WD B team skipper Gilchrist to take a close frame.
