South West two
Torbay A 3
Tavistock B 2
TAVISTOCK ’s penultimate game of the season was against the league leaders, who needed a win to get promotion.
With a familiar
Tavistock B backline of Cull, Gott, Anning and Tosdevin, with Oxenham in goal, Torbay goals were always going to be restricted to slim chances and not through open play.
At the break and 1-0 down through a short corner the visitors still had everything to play for and started the second half fluently and full of energy.
The midfield trio of Tanner, Walker and Bicknell worked tirelessly throughout making strong tackles that stifled Torbay’s efforts before they gained any momentum — this caused some division in the ranks of the home side and played into Tavistock’s hands with the visitors’ confidence growing.
Just reward for Tavistock came with a well worked and splendid effort from J Sealy — his first for the club.
Torbay pulled one back from another short corner, but some great work from Bicknell found Bellamy in the D and with a cheeky chip over their diving goal keeper to find the net and put Tavistock back in the game on level terms.
Torbay did reply with a strong shot from the edge of the D that got a defection that gave Oxenham no chance.
